Divine wisdom deeply influences our way of speaking and acting, as James teaches us in his epistle. He compares the tongue to a bit in a horse’s mouth or a rudder on a ship, illustrating its tremendous power. Our tongue can bring both life and death, so it is crucial to keep it under control.
Philippians 4:8 exhorts us to focus on positive and constructive thoughts. Our thoughts shape our words and actions, so we should focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.
In Numbers 13, we see how negative reports can hinder our progress. Even when facing challenges, like the spies who saw giants in the promised land, we must trust in God and His power to overcome any obstacle.
Murmuring and destructive criticism are not pleasing to God and have negative consequences. On the other hand, the Bible teaches us to guard our tongues and speak with wisdom and grace.
Romans 8:8-9 reminds us that those who are controlled by their sinful nature cannot please God, but those who are led by the Holy Spirit have a new nature. The fruit of the Spirit, as described in Galatians 5:22-26, is evident in our lives when we allow the Spirit of God to shape us.
Allowing God’s wisdom to shape our way of speaking involves focusing on positive thoughts and words, trusting God in the face of challenges, avoiding murmuring, and allowing the Holy Spirit to produce fruit in our lives.
Sincerely,
Pastor Guillermo Ayala
