SERIES: KNOWING THE WILL OF GOD
Intro: You began to relate to the Holy Spirit from the first time you heard the good news that Jesus took your place and took the punishment for your sins. It was the Holy Spirit, through the Word, who put the conviction in your heart that Jesus rose from the dead. 1 Cor. 12:3 explains that no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In John 10:10 Jesus came so that mankind could receive God’s nature—eternal life—however, no person could be born again while Jesus walked the earth.
The Holy Spirit is very important in our lives, we have to learn to know him, to listen to him, to let him guide our lives. If you want to know the will of God, you need to know the Spirit of God.
The Holy Spirit identifies the will of God regarding sin
John 16:7, 12-15 teaches us that it was the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit that made you and me a new creature. He showed us that even though we believed we deserved heaven for being good people, nothing we could present on our behalf could bring us salvation, since God’s standards were too high.
In Acts 2 we can see that the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost brought conviction of sin to the multitude so that they understood that they needed a Savior. Peter preaching expresses in v. 33 that the Spirit that had been promised, was what they saw and heard.
Done. 2.37 Peter’s Words were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they said, what should we do? Their sin was revealed to them, they were convicted of it and wanted to know what to do
Peter tells them to repent, turn to God and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins, they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, that promise is for you and your children
THAT PROMISE IS ALSO FOR US TODAY.
As a result there were about three thousand that day who believed and were baptized and added to the family of the Church. The Holy Spirit transforms those who are burdened with sin and selfishness; recreates their spirits in the image of God.
The Holy Spirit identifies the will of God regarding the Son
The promises that John 16 gives us are partially fulfilled since we have a New Testament in which we can trust. When the disciples testified of the Son of God, the Holy Spirit guided them into all truth regarding Jesus.
It is as if the Spirit tells us: Look at him, see his glory, listen to him and his Word, Come to him and have life, know him and taste his gift of joy and peace.
Jesus said that the Spirit would guide the disciples (and us) into all truth. That means he will make sure we know God’s will.
The Holy Spirit identifies the will of God regarding our history.
As the Spirit comes upon us we will receive power to testify of Christ. Acts 1:4-5, 8. You are a witness, what does a witness do? Offer evidence or confirmation. The power of the Holy Spirit that is in you can turn your life into a testimony to the world.
Jesus told his disciples that it was for their good to go away so that the Spirit would be given to them. Because the Holy Spirit was going to transform them. Fearful Peter denies it, then filled with the Spirit he gains courage and preaches to the crowds. The same with the other apostles.
The Spirit helps us see what God is doing in history and also our place in history. GOD PREPARED YOU FOR THIS SEASON SO THAT FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT YOU SERVE HIM, AS A VESSEL OF HONOR, TO RAISE THE NAME OF CHRIST, WIN SOULS AND SERVE IN HIS KINGDOM.
HE WAS FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT, Ephesians 6:18; Luke 11:9-13 You have to ask
“Teach me how to live, oh Lord. Guide me on the right path.” Psalm 27:11 (NLT) Conclusion: We must give place to the Spirit of God in our lives, He will guide us to all the truth, and the truth is our Lord Jesus Christ, and in turn Jesus Christ leads us to the Father, we see how the Trinity of God operates in perfect harmony. LET US TESTIFY of what he has done in our lives, under the power of the Holy Spirit.
