Unusual Heroes

The Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor. (Judges 6:12)

And the Lord said to Gideon: By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. (Judges 7:7)

In the book of Judges, we find the story of Gideon, a man chosen by God to accomplish a great task. Despite adverse circumstances and his own perception of weakness, God called him a “mighty man of valor”.

Gideon faced an additional test after God called him to lead the fight against the Midianites. God reduced his army from thousands to only three hundred men. This seemingly illogical action was a reminder that victory did not depend on man’s strength, but on God’s power.

Despite the overwhelming numerical disparity, Gideon and his three hundred men trusted in God and obeyed his instructions. God gave them an unconventional strategy: to use torches and pitchers to confuse the enemy. And so, through faith and obedience, they witnessed God’s miraculous intervention and obtained victory over the Midianites.

1. Trust in God’s power: Even when circumstances seem impossible, remember that God is greater than any challenge you face. Put your trust in his power and not in your own strength.

2. Obey God’s instructions: Obedience to God is key to experiencing his intervention in our lives. Sometimes, God’s instructions may seem unconventional, but if we trust and obey, we will see his perfect plan unfold.

3. Recognize that victory comes from God: No matter how insurmountable the circumstances may seem, remember that ultimate victory belongs to the Lord. He is the one who fights our battles and leads us to victory.
