đź“– Scripture Reading
“Therefore, my beloved… work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:12–13 (NKJV)
We all understand the importance of taking care of our physical health. When we visit a hospital, one of the first things doctors do is check our vital signs to determine whether our body is stable. In the same way, God invites us to pause and examine the condition of our spiritual life.
Many times we continue attending church, serving, and fulfilling our responsibilities, while our hearts are quietly growing weaker without us realizing it. Spiritual sickness does not appear overnight; it begins silently until it eventually affects our relationship with God.
When Spiritual Disciplines Stop Being a Delight
Prayer, reading God’s Word, worship, and fellowship with the Lord were designed to be sources of joy. However, when these spiritual disciplines begin to feel like obligations or burdens, it is a sign that something needs attention.
Our goal is not simply to maintain a routine, but to delight ourselves in the presence of the Lord.
Spiritual Lethargy Begins Quietly
Apathy, a lack of desire to pray, indifference, and spiritual weariness are symptoms that often go unnoticed. We may continue with our daily activities, yet inwardly our spirit is losing strength.
God does not want us to live a Christian life based only on habit. He desires to renew our passion for His presence every single day.
God Wants to Restore the Joy of Our Salvation
David understood this need when he prayed:
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.”
Psalm 51:12 (NKJV)
When joy disappears, spiritual disciplines become heavy burdens. Yet God promises to produce in us both “the desire and the ability to do His good pleasure.” He not only calls us to seek Him; He also gives us the desire and the strength to do so.
Every time we draw near to the Lord, He strengthens our souls.
Conclusion
Today is a good day to ask ourselves: How are my spiritual vital signs?
Perhaps you need to renew your prayer life, rediscover the joy of reading God’s Word, or regain your passion for gathering with other believers and serving Him.
The good news is that Jesus is still the Great Physician of our souls. He did not come to condemn us but to restore us. When we allow Him to examine our hearts, He heals what has grown weak, strengthens our faith, and renews the joy of walking with Him.
🙏 Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I open my heart before You. Examine my spiritual vital signs and reveal any area where I have grown weak. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and renew within me the desire to pray, read Your Word, and delight in Your presence. Do not allow apathy or routine to diminish my love for You. Work in me both the desire and the power to accomplish Your perfect will, so that I may live a life that honors You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Sincerely, Pastor Guillermo Ayala
