GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANTS: WISELY MANAGING WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN US

by Nov 2, 2026

Reading Time: 5–6 minutes

Main Scripture: Matthew 25:21 (KJV)

“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Introduction

God has entrusted us with resources, talents, abilities, and opportunities that we must manage wisely. Many times, we speak of our possessions as if they belonged exclusively to us, but the Word teaches us that we are stewards of everything the Lord has placed in our hands.

In Matthew 25, Jesus presents the Parable of the Talents and reminds us that God expects us to be faithful with what we have received, to develop it, and to use it in service of His purposes. One day, we will have to give an account before Him for the way we have managed what He entrusted to us.

God Entrusts Each Person According to Their Ability

In Matthew 25:14–15, we see that the master gave different amounts of talents to his servants, according to each one’s ability.

This teaches us that we do not all receive the same things, but we all have a responsibility before God. We should not compare ourselves with others or become envious of what they have. What matters is being faithful with what we have received.

Romans 12:6 reminds us that we have different gifts according to the grace of God. Therefore, we must develop our abilities and use our talents to serve others.

Do not bury what God has given you; develop it and use it for His glory.

Good Stewardship Requires Hard Work, Order, and Planning

The servants who received five and two talents worked with what they had and were able to multiply it. However, the servant who received one talent hid it.

The difference was in their attitude and sense of responsibility.

Proverbs 10:4 teaches us that laziness leads to poverty, while diligence produces good results.

Responsible stewardship requires us to work hard, organize our resources, control our expenses, and learn to save. We cannot spend more than we receive or make impulsive decisions.

God calls us to live with order, wisdom, and responsibility in every area of our lives.

Avoid the Slavery of Debt

Debts, loans, and impulsive purchases can become burdens that affect our peace of mind and our families.

Proverbs 22:7 declares:

“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”

This principle invites us to reflect on our financial decisions. We should not live trying to appear wealthier than we are or go into debt to satisfy temporary desires.

Let us learn to create a budget, control our spending, and save wisely. True prosperity is not simply about having more, but about knowing how to properly manage what God has entrusted to us.

Faithfulness Is Demonstrated Through Our Actions

In Matthew 25:19, we see that the master returned to settle accounts with his servants. Those who had been faithful received his recognition: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

This teaching leads us to ask ourselves: What are we doing with what God has entrusted to us?

We must not allow fear, negligence, or a lack of initiative to cause us to bury our talents and opportunities.

As John Wesley taught: “Earn all you can, save all you can, and give all you can.”

Hard work, saving, and generosity should be part of our lives as good stewards.

Generosity Reveals Our Hearts

When we recognize that everything comes from God, we stop clinging to our possessions and learn to put Him first.

Generosity does not depend solely on how much we have, but on our willingness to honor the Lord, support His work, and bless others.

God is not looking for people who simply accumulate possessions, but for grateful and faithful hearts that are willing to share.

Our goal should be to manage everything in such a way that one day we may hear these words from our Lord: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

Closing Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for the resources, talents, and opportunities You have placed in my hands. Give me wisdom to manage them responsibly, work diligently, save wisely, and be generous toward Your work. Help me not to compare myself with others, but to remain faithful with what I have received. Teach me to live with gratitude and a heart willing to bless others. May I one day hear You say: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sincerely, Pastor Guillermo Ayala
