đź“– Bible Reading:
“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
James 4:4
We live surrounded by a society that constantly tries to shape our thoughts, desires, and decisions. Therefore, when the Bible speaks about being enemies of the “world,” it is not saying that we should distance ourselves from people, reject them, or isolate ourselves from society.
Jesus Himself was close to people who needed to know God. He was called a “friend of sinners,” but He never allowed the values of sin to govern His life. Jesus was in the world, but the world was not in Him.
The Real Battle Is Within Us
Many times, we think our greatest struggle is outside of us: in people, culture, social media, or the circumstances around us. However, God’s Word shows us that there is a much deeper battle: the battle of the heart.
Pride, selfishness, uncontrolled ambition, and the desires of the flesh can begin to occupy a place that belongs only to God.
That is why we need to examine our hearts and ask ourselves:
What is governing my heart: my desires or the Holy Spirit?
It Is Not About Abandoning the World, but About Not Adopting Its Values
God has called us to be light in the midst of darkness. We cannot influence others if we isolate ourselves from them, but neither can we be light if we begin to resemble the darkness.
The challenge for the believer is to live in a society that often thinks differently from God, without allowing that way of thinking to transform our hearts.
We can love people without approving what God calls sin. We can have relationships with those who do not know Christ without giving up our identity in Him.
Walking With God Requires Decisions
Friendship with God does not grow stronger by constantly feeding our carnal desires. There are things we must surrender, habits we must abandon, and attitudes that need to be crucified.
The Word of God says:
“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
Galatians 5:24
This does not mean that the struggle disappears overnight. It means that we have decided who will govern our lives.
Every day, we must choose between feeding our flesh or walking under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
A Question for Today
What area of my life do I need to completely surrender to God?
Perhaps it is pride. Maybe selfishness, the need to always be right, a desire that is taking up too much space, a relationship, an attitude, or a habit that is slowly pulling you away from God.
Do not be afraid to acknowledge it. God does not reveal our weaknesses to condemn us, but to transform us.
Today, ask the Lord:
“God, show me what is in my heart that does not please You. Give me the courage to let it go and help me walk under the direction of Your Spirit.”
Remember: we are not called to run away from people, but to remain firm in Christ while living among them.
May we remain so close to God that, even though we live in the midst of a world that tries to pull us away from Him, our hearts remain completely surrendered to His will.
🙌 Prayer
Heavenly Father, today examine my heart and show me everything that is taking the place that only You should occupy. Help me let go of pride, selfishness, and desires that do not come from You.
I want to live in this world without belonging to its values. Give me wisdom to love people, but also the strength to remain faithful to Your Word. May Your Holy Spirit govern my thoughts, my decisions, and my actions.
Today, I choose to walk with You, even when it means fighting against everything that tries to pull me away from Your presence. May my life reflect Christ, and through me, may others come to know Your love.
Sincerely,Pastor Guillermo Ayala
