But be careful! Pay attention and do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, nor separate them from your heart as long as you live. Tell them to your children and grandchildren. (Deuteronomy 4:9)
This is an important reminder and a word of warning for each of us: DON’T FORGET GOD! As a general rule, our memory tends to be selective: it discards the least important things, those that we stop thinking about or abandon. If we ignore God daily, if we do not meditate on His Word, if in practice we treat Him as insignificant, our memory will surely erase Him.
The Bible frequently encourages us to think about God, to remember him:
- in the battles of life (Nehemiah 4:14)
- in the dark nights (Psalm 63:6)
- in the hour of pain (Jonah 2:7)
- in the days of our youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
- being far from home (Zechariah 10:9)
Never turn your heart away from everything you have seen and learned at the Lord’s side. That will be precious when a crisis comes. In the most difficult moments your memory will help you find hope and faith to continue.
For Pray:
Lord, help me never forget your goodness, mercy and love. May I keep your Words in my heart so as not to sin against you. Help me remember every day that you are the almighty God in whom my soul can trust. I pray in the name of Jesus, amen.
