Key Verses:

  • Luke 5:1-7 – “One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’ Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’ When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.”
  • 1 Kings 17:10-16 – The story of the widow of Zarephath, who, by sharing the little she had with the prophet Elijah, saw how God multiplied her provision.
  • John 6:9-13 – “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?’ Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, ‘Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.’”
  • 2 Kings 4:8-17 – The story of the Shunammite woman, who, by offering her hospitality to the prophet Elisha, received an unexpected blessing in the form of a son.

We see how God takes the little we have and multiplies it for His glory and for our good. When we unite our abilities, resources, and gifts with God’s will, the results are miraculous.

  1. Obedience and Trust in God’s Word (Luke 5:1-7) Peter and his companions had been working all night without results, but when Jesus asked them to cast the nets again, they did so in obedience. Although it seemed pointless based on their experience, obedience to Jesus’ word resulted in a miraculous catch of fish. This teaches us that when we obey God, even when we don’t fully understand His plan, He can do great things with what we have.
  2. Generosity and Faith in Times of Scarcity (1 Kings 17:10-16) The widow of Zarephath was on the brink of despair, with barely enough food for herself and her son. However, by sharing what little she had with the prophet Elijah, her provision did not run out. This reminds us that when we are generous, even in our scarcity, and trust that God will provide, He takes care of our needs in surprising ways.
  3. Multiplication of the Little (John 6:9-13) The boy with five loaves and two fish might have thought that what he had was insignificant to feed a crowd, but Jesus took it and multiplied it. This shows that when we give what we have to God, He multiplies it beyond what we could imagine, not only to meet our needs but also to bless others.
  4. Hospitality and Unexpected Blessing (2 Kings 4:8-17) The Shunammite woman offered hospitality to the prophet Elisha without expecting anything in return, but God blessed her with a son, something she hadn’t even asked for. When we give what we have, whether it’s time, resources, or simply hospitality, God always responds with unexpected blessings.

Prayer:

Lord, we thank You for reminding us that the little we have, when united with Your power and purpose, can become much. Help us to trust in You, to be obedient to Your word, generous in our scarcity, and hospitable to others. May our lives be a testimony of Your great power and love. Amen.

Sincerely,
Pastor Carlos Segundo
