Submission that Honors God

Reading time: 3 minutes
Key text: Romans 13:1–2
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Submission is not weakness but an expression of trust in divine order. God is glorified when His people live under authority with humility, discernment, and obedience.

The source of all authority is God (Romans 13:1)

It is not man who establishes order, but God.
Submission begins with recognizing that God is sovereign.
Illustration: Jesus before Pilate — “You would have no authority over me if it were not given to you from above” (John 19:11).
Application: Do you recognize God’s hand even in imperfect authorities?

Submission is an attitude of the heart (Ephesians 5:21)

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
It is not just about outward obedience but inward honor.
Mutual submission within the church reflects the character of Christ.

Illustration: The washing of feet — Jesus submitted Himself in order to serve.
Application: How are you modeling submission in your home, church, and community?

Submission is not blind but discerning (Acts 5:29)

“We must obey God rather than men.”
When human authority contradicts God’s will, the believer must stand firm.
Submission does not mean complicity with sin, but faithfulness to the Kingdom.
Application: Do you know when to submit and when to stand firm?

The reward of submission is peace and favor (1 Peter 2:13–15)

God honors those who submit with humility.
Submission silences the ignorance of foolish people.
Illustration: Daniel in Babylon — he submitted without defiling himself.
Application: Are you experiencing peace by living under God’s order?

Submission is not a burden; it is a blessing.
It is the way of the Kingdom: Jesus submitted even to death—and was exalted.
Today, God calls you to surrender your will, trust His sovereignty, and live humbly.

Call to reflection: Are there areas where you are resisting the authority God has placed over you? Today is the time to surrender—not out of weakness, but out of faith.

Sincerely,
Pastor Guillermo Ayala
